Our meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at the Christian Reformed Church at the bottom of Roger St at 7 PM.

June 2026
- Saturday June 6 – Big Tree Hike to Old Growth in the Nahmint Valley. Some bush-whacking is involved. Led by Greg Herringer. Long drive up bumpy gravel road through Gracie Pass and down into the Nahmint Valley. Meet at 9AM at Riverbend Store. Bring a lunch. This hike will have a limited number of participants, and therefore are members only. Pre-Register at avnctreasurer@gmail.com.

Wednesday June 10 – 8 AM Hike to Arbutus Ridge Tower with the focus on Butterflies. Lead by Lorelei Andrew & Sandy McRuer. Meet at Victoria Quay.

Saturday 20 June – Birding hike to Turtle Lake 2.5 km along a gated gravel road. We’ll also get a chance to see turtles and some bog vegetation like sundew plants. Meet at 7:30 AM at Victoria Quay. Back by lunchtime bring water and a snack.
- Tuesday 24 June – Hike to Arbutus Ridge Tower with the focus on Butterflies. Lead by Lorelei Andrew & Sandy McRuer.
- Sunday 28 June – A Hike to Tree Island. Taking advantage of a very low tide in the middle of the day, we’ll drive to the ferry at Bulkey Bay, cross to Denman Island, and drive to the north end before crossing to Tree Island on foot. We’ll meet early, at 8AM at Victoria Quay.
July 2026
- Saturday July 4 – Butterfly’s, Birds and Plants at Great Central Lookout: This hike was originally planned for Mount Cokely. But the Gates are closed until the fire danger subsides. Meet at Victoria Quay at 8 AM for a 30 min drive to the trailhead.
- Saturday July 11- Afternoon Visit to waterfalls and beach at Fossli Provincial Park: Now that the suspension bridge is repaired, we’ll take a 20-minute hike to the waterfalls walk down the creek and head to a small beach. We’ll meet at 12:30PM and take a 20-minute drive, partly over gravel road to the trailhead. Bring water and your bathing suit if you so desire.
- Saturday July 18- Visit to Sutton Pass Ecological Reserve. The reserve was established to protect one of the few known occurrences of adder’s tongue fern in British Columbia. It’s a very short hike that may include a little bush-whacking. Meet at 9 AM at Victoria Quay.
- Wednesday July 19 – Hike along Heath Creek: Heath Creek flows North into McCoy Lake from Devil’s Den Lake. From the road to the land-fill, we’ll hike along the creek through mature timber and do a loop over two rocky hills back to the parking area. Meet at 9:00 AM at Victoria Quay. Bring water.
August 2026
- Saturday August 8 – Morning Hike to Stokes Creek Falls and Ginger Falls: Perhaps they will still be running. These two falls flow into Roger. There is steep terrain in places and lots of climbing. Overall moderate hiking. Meet at 9:00 AM at Victoria Quay. Parking is limited where we are going.
- Friday August 14 – Evening Walk at McLean Mill: We’ll do a loop around the the park and a surrounding trail looking for owls and bats and things. Sunset is at 8:37PM so we’ll meet at 7:30PM at the mill parking lot. Bring a flashlight.
- Wednesday August 19 – Walk up Roger Creek to find Coho salmon fry, crawfish and other aquatic life. Be prepared to do some wading. Meet at 1PM at the Kin Hut in the fair grounds before hiking down the Scott Kenny trail to Roger Creek.
