Every organization needs a logo, and since AVNC is a community group, we turned to the community to come up with ours. Teacher Anne Ostwald at ADSS invited her Grade 8 and 9 art students to create designs for us as they were already working on a project for the city, which involved discussing needs, creating designs, and modifying plans—this fit right in with Anne’s curriculum.
We were presented with over a dozen design drafts, each displaying artistic merit and imagination. It was a tough decision! We managed to whittle it down to three favorites, which were cleaned and digitized. One stood out to us as embodying much of what the Alberni Valley means to the Nature Club: mountains, rivers, and trees. We are thrilled with the final product!
Many thanks to our talented artists: Kate Basra, designer, Bee Sayers, digitizer, and Anne Ostwald for standing behind the project. Emily Stubbs and Jaidin Knighton were our runners-up. Kate and Bee were pleased to receive shirts with our logo on them.
We have since created a table banner with our logo for community events like the Fall Fair. Club member Nicole Beaulac appliquéd the club name on it—thank you, Nicole!
