Christmas Bird Count
This will be the 29th year a Christmas Bird Count has been held in Port Alberni. We have defined a 15 mi diameter circle within which we count birds. We do this by forming groups where each group counts in different part of the circle. Each group has a leader who knows birds pretty well and usually has a spotting scope to use for viewing fields and lakes and the inlet. You can also pate at home watchin your bird feeder for a certain period and recording what you see at and around it. Although most spend all day in the field, lots spend a morning or afternoon counting. At the end of the day we generally meet at a restaurant Craft brewery to compare notes about the day, collect initial results and socialize. You should to sign up ahead of time.
